2.3 CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS

CUPPING CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • All Massage Contraindications apply to cupping.
  • Skin Lesions & Open Wounds or Contagious Skin Conditions
  • Bulging,Herniated or Degenerative DIsc, severely compromised joints, Acute Fractures, Refrain from Acute injuries: bruises, sprains, strains
  • History of Vascular Disease: DVT Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • Hernias, Active Flare-ups of Crohn’s Disease, IBS, Abd. Mesh
  • Anterior and Lateral Cervical Region
  • Femoral Triangle of Groin
  • Medial Upper Arm
  • Popliteal & Cubital Fossa
  • DO NOT CUP OVER SUPERFICIAL ARTERIES

WARNINGS

  • Cupping if performed aggressively can cause soft tissue damage.
  • Cupping should be performed as a “Pain Free” Modality
  • Cancer & Chemo Patients should only be cupped by professionals trained in Cancer Manual Therapy and Cupping
  • Pregnancy – Only Light Suction in Conservative  Manner- Never EVER Abdomen – For Precautions, get physician approval
  • Blood Thinners or Individuals with Bleeding Disorders
  • Gastric Bypass- Use extreme Caution
  • Diastasis Recti- Use extreme Caution but never if  separation greater than 1.5 inches
  • Whenever in doubt – Check with Physician
